David Douglas Martin, age 68, went to join His Savior Saturday, April 23, 2022 in Spring Hill, FL. He was born November 4, 1953 in Martin, KY, the son of Fon and Mary Eloise (Sanders) Martin. Friends and family affectionately knew him as Butch or Butchy Boy.

David enjoyed fishing with his grandson, going on adventures with his family and riding his beloved Harley. He was an avid viewer of Wheel of Fortune and was particularly good at answering the questions on Jeopardy. He loved Emmy Lou Harris' voice and baseball; the Ypsilanti National Little League held a special place in his heart. David was very smart, gaining knowledge from reading numerous books.

David graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1971. He was a hardworking man holding several different positions in his career including coal miner and maintenance supervisor at Concord Management, Ford Motor Company, Zantop Airlines, and Wrigleys. He also owned and ran Martin's Market in KY for several years.

He was a long-time member of the Masons, Eagles, and the Moose Lodge.

David is survived by his father Fon (Buck) Martin, brothers Barry (Tonya) Martin and Bobby Martin; daughters Fonda and Crystal; and grandson Trae David, to whom David was the absolute best PawPaw. He was also a loving uncle to Jon, Ethan, Morgan and Logan and beloved father figure to Jason Urquhart.  David married Cathie (Davis) McClure on December 4, 1971. Although they divorced after 20 years, they remained friends until the end.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti, MI) with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Pastor Dr. Jim Newcomer will officiate. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 at the funeral home. David will be laid to rest at Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Canton Township, MI.
