Clarence Fred Erwin, age 98, of Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2026, peacefully at his home. He was born on September 15, 1927, in Marion, Illinois, the son of Herman and Clara (Grammar) Erwin.

Clarence lived a long and meaningful life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and quiet generosity. Raised during the era of the Great Depression, he carried those values throughout his life—working diligently, providing faithfully, and teaching those around him the true value of perseverance and humility. Though he earned a modest living, he ensured his family never went without, instilling in them gratitude and strength.

On January 18, 1949, he married the love of his life, Dealie Mae Richardson, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Together they shared 65 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and family. Their story began with a simple introduction by a mutual friend and grew into a lifelong partnership marked by devotion and companionship.

Clarence worked for Ford Motor Company for 42 years, contributing his time between the Ypsilanti and Plymouth plants before retiring. He was also a founding member of the Ypsilanti Church of Christ, where his faith remained an important part of his life.

Outside of work, Clarence found joy in simple pleasures. He had a deep love for gardening and was known for his ability to grow just about anything. Alongside his family, he cultivated not only crops like watermelons, potatoes, and vegetables, but also a spirit of generosity—often sharing the harvest with friends, neighbors, and loved ones. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball, basketball, football, and most of all, NCAA "March Madness."

Clarence will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, always willing to lend a hand, with a warm sense of humor and a quiet strength. His family will forever cherish the lessons he taught, the life he modeled, and the love he gave so freely.

He is survived by his four children: Charles (Wendy) Erwin, Brenda (Stan) Eldridge, Eric (Nancy) Erwin, and Rhonda (Patrick) McGivney; five grandchildren: Nicole (Kevin) Gibson, Chad (Ellen) Eldridge, Kayla Erwin, Luke Erwin, and Patrick Erwin McGivney; along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dealie Mae Erwin.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, April 17, 2026 at Stark Funeral Professionals with visitation beginning at 10 am. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice .
