Charles Edward Reed, age 79, of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away on September 18, 2025 in Livonia, MI. He was born in Ironton, OH to his parents, the late Florence Mae (Delong) and Howard Reed.

He later moved to Ypsilanti to work at the General Motors Willow Run plant. He was then transferred to the Adrian plant where he retired after 27 years of combined employment.

Charles was a kind man with a great sense of humor. This awarded him many friends over the years – be it from GM, the Ypsilanti Eagles, the Ypsilanti VFW, or his favorite hangout, The Orange Lantern Bar.

He was very well known at The Orange Lantern. He practically had his own parking space, seat at the bar, and the waitresses always knew what he was having. Everyone recognized him by the fishing hat that was always fixed atop his head.

With his love of golf, Charles decided that he would run a league consisting of his buddies from work, the Orange Lantern and the community, including friends in law enforcement. They would travel all over to play the best courses.

His quiet pleasure was gardening and feeding the birds and the squirrels around his home. If he was running late for feeding time, the squirrels would make sure he knew it by going up to the windows to get his attention. He also had a real soft spot for his late cat, Nicky, and enjoyed taking her on walks around the neighborhood.

He is survived his beloved wife Joan, loving children Rhonda Kissella, Andrea (Tim) O'Dell, and Jason Reed; grandfather of Julie, Joey, Paul, Aleigha, Dillon, Destiny, Danny, and Eric; bonus daughters Wanda Brumfield and Patricia Ratliff; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear friend of 55 years, Rick (Petra) Coker in addition to many loved ones and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Julie Ann, granddaughter Alexandrea, siblings Carolyn, Raymond and Tammy Sue; step-children Linda (Randy) Slocum and Mark Pierce.

Per his wishes, the family has chosen simple cremation with plans for a Celebration of life in the near future. Memorial contributions in Charles' name may be made to Angela Hospice Care in Livonia.
