Carol Ann Marcelli passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the age of 80 in Ypsilanti, MI.

Born in Arendtsville, PA on April 1, 1943, she was the eldest daughter of the late Louis Newton Diehl and Margaret Rexroad Diehl.

Carol worked for many years as a registered respiratory therapist and taught classes for the Respiratory Care program at Hudson Valley Community College. After retirement, she hosted bus tours to Washington, D.C. which proved to be a good fit for her unflappable and friendly nature.

Throughout her life, Carol was attentive to her family and various skittish felines while joyously pursuing her passion for orchids, painting, cooking, and traveling. In 2014, friends invited her to live with them in Hawai'i, which was a dream come true. She had the time of her life. Four years later, health concerns brought her to Ann Arbor, MI where she lived close to her daughter and where she was happy but, unfortunately, always cold.

Carol is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Eric) Middleton, grandson Court Middleton, sister Emily Simmers, nephew Darryl (Kathy) Gotwalt and family, and niece Andrea (Daniel) McMaster and family.

Carol wished to be cremated and interred with her predeceased daughters, Melissa and Heidi at Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester, NY. She was also predeceased by former husbands, A. Joseph Sawyer and Dr. Joseph Marcelli.

For those who lived with or cared for Carol, a celebration of her life will be held at Lurie Terrace in Ann Arbor and at The Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti. The family thanks the staff and residents of The Gilbert Residence for providing a welcoming and caring environment.
