Perez, Camilo Jr.

Age 88, passed away and went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his home in Ypsilanti, MI. He was born November 25, 1934 in Peñitas, TX, the son of Camilo and Maria (Del Refugio Cuellar) Perez. He married Raquel Peña in Mission, TX, in 1952.

Camilo enjoyed attending craft shows, social dances and going out to eat. He liked camping and family gatherings. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Camilo was proud to be on the local school board while his children were growing up. He worked as an accountant in the automotive industry, did concrete work and he built on to his own home every chance he got.

Camilo is survived by his children Thelma Costas Perez, Camilo (Victoria) Perez III, Jose Anastacio Perez and Pat Yvonne Enright; brother Sigifredo (Aurora) Perez, sister-in-law Olivia Cavazos, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and over 100 nieces and nephews and their children.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Baudilia (Arturo) Gonzales, Bauselina (Ramon) Gonzales, Beita (Diego) Zamora and Berta (Alizondo) Olivares; parents Camilo and Maria (Del Refugio Cuellar) Perez; parents-in-law Antonio and Manuela Peña; daughters Melba (Christopher) Towler and Velma Sluder; grandson David Enright and great-grandson Jamal Love.

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 87, passed away and went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 22, 2023 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township, MI. She was born March 2, 1935 in Mission, TX, the daughter of Antonio and Manuela (Gomez) Peña. She married Camilo Perez Jr. in Mission, TX, in 1952 and he preceded her in death.

Raquel enjoyed family gatherings, big and small, and attending services at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She liked camping (with running water), social dances and going out to eat. She treasured time spent with friends and shopping for the perfect outfit. Raquel worked as a stay-at-home mom and later worked in factories and retail, retiring from Target.

Raquel is survived by her children Thelma Costas Perez, Camilo Perez III, Jose Anastacio Perez and Pat Yvonne Enright; brother-in-law Sigifredo (Aurora) Perez, sister Olivia (Humberto) Cavazos, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and over 100 nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Susana Maria (Genero) Garza, Ninfa (Ignacio) Salazar and Nena (Chito) Garcia; parents Antonio and Manuela (Gomez) Peña; parents-in-law Camilo and Maria (Del Refugio Cuellar) Perez; daughters Melba (Christopher) Towler and Velma Sluder; grandson David Enright and great-grandson Jamal Love.

Camilo and Raquel's remains were accepted by the Michigan Medicine Anatomical Donations Program.  On February 25, 2023 a 5 pm mass will be dedicated to both Raquel and Camilo at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, presided over by Father Daniel Westermann. A funeral mass will be led by Father Daniel, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, upon research study completion. Funeral mass scheduling will be determined at a later date.
