Beverly Lynn Tyler was born on November 28, 1947 to the union of Lonnie and Hattie Martin in Winston-Salem, NC. She spent many summers and had many visits with her Aunt Mamie, who taught her the intricacies of being a Diva. On Sunday, July 30, 2023, Beverly Tyler passed away in her home at the age of 75.

At an early age, Beverly had a love for playing school. Beverly graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem in 1966. This was the foundation of her becoming a teacher. She then entered Shaw University where she obtained a BA in Education. Here she became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Upon graduating she took her first teaching position in Clarksville, VA.

At the age of 23, she married the love of her life, David Tyler Jr. in 1970. They soon moved to Ypsilanti and she became a teacher in the Ypsilanti Public School System. Her main goal was to encourage students to work to their full academic and behavioral potential. If you ask any of her students they will tell you, "Mrs. Tyler didn't play!" Later Beverly received a MA degree in Guidance and Counseling from Eastern Michigan University. After almost 35 years dedicating herself to the children of the district, Beverly ended her professional career at Ypsilanti High School as an At-Risk Counselor.

Beverly had a sincere heart for service and she served her community well. She was a loyal and faithful member of Community Church of God where she ran an after-school tutorial program, The Opportunity Center (for over fifteen years), church Board of Trustees, and the Usher Board. She has been a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for over 50 years where she held positions on the local, regional and national level of the sorority. Beverly was a charter member of the Ypsilanti Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., the African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County, and NPHCC of Ann Arbor. She was also a member of KISS Dynasty's Red Hat Society and the Gateway Board in Ypsilanti.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David Martin Tyler. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of over 50 years, David Tyler Jr., her son, Darren (Tiffany) Tyler of NC, her grandchildren: Chloe, DJ (Darren Jr.) and Darrek Matthew, and a host of students and friends.

Throughout her life, Beverly has been an encourager of hope, spreading her knowledge of gospel to others about the goodness and love of God. She will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held 12 pm Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Community Church of God with family hour beginning at 10:30 am (565 Jefferson Street, Ypsilanti). Pastor Portia L. Davis Mann will officiate. The family will receive friends 4-7 pm Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti). Beverly will be laid to rest in United Memorial Gardens, Superior Township.
