Betty Sue Walker-Gowen-Hayes, age 89, left this earth on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Beaumont Hospital in Taylor, Michigan. She was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee, the daughter of Harold Walker and Annie May (Clayton) Walker.

She retired from University of Michigan custodial Department where she was often referred to as "mom" by the students and loved them as her own. Betty attended Ypsilanti Church of God and church was her life. She married Mack K. Hayes on October 13, 1969 and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2021. They enjoyed their life and love for over 51 years.

She is survived by 14 children, seven of which she had by her first marriage and eight that were joined in her marriage to the love of her life: Diane Gowen, Joan (Steven) Vercruysse, Vicki Wilson, Kenneth Gowen, Michael "Keith" Gowen, Jeffrey (Christine) Gowen, Steven Gowen; Peggy Music, Michael Hayes, Claudia Waller, Beth Cook, Marcia Garrison, Mark Hayes and Elaine Clark; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother B.E "Bud" (Sharon) Walker, sister Dorothy (Lee) Heffelbower, daughter Sally Gibson, granddaughters Tracy Garrett and Kelly Hayes; son-in-law Michael Wilson, daughter-in-law Gloria Gowen, and great-grandson Anthony.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1:00pm until time of service at 3:00pm at Stark Funeral Professionals, 101 S. Washington St. Ypsilanti. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice in memory of Betty Sue.
