Merritt, Aline

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 87, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022 in Covington, GA. She was born March 8, 1935, in Corbin, KY. She was the daughter of Lewis and Edna (Buhl) Marion. After the passing of her biological mother, Aline was raised by her stepmother, Eva Marion.

Aline worked as a medical assistant in Ypsilanti for over 40 years. She enjoyed flower arranging, playing cards and was an avid gardener. She was the family euchre champion! She was a great bowler and participated in various leagues at the old Thunderbird Lanes in Ypsilanti over many years. Aline was active in the Ridgewood Osteopathic Guild of Ypsilanti and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 119. She served several terms as President of the Rebecca Lodge and was a surviving spouse member of the Local 849 UAW Ypsilanti Ford plant.

She was preceded in death by Stanley Merritt, her loving husband of 55 years; daughter Patricia Lou; parents Lewis & Edna Marion and Eva Marion; siblings Richard (Barbara) Marion of Lake City Michigan; Poncho (Sue) Marion of Morley, Michigan and a half sister Louise (Thurman) of Ohio.

Aline is survived by her children Linda Sue Sharp (the late David Sharp) (Ron Goshen) of Dexter, MI and Sheila Kay Merritt (Andria "A.T." Towne) of East Point, GA; one grandson Steve (Rebecca) Sharp of Ypsilanti, MI; great-grandchildren David, Lexi and Lina; one sister Mary Rose (Grady) Watson of Murfreesboro, TN; one sister-in-law, Joy Hobson (the late Kenny Hobson) (Joe Smith) of Petersburg, IN; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a large extended & chosen family in East Point, GA, including Cindy Towne, Katie Towne (Chris Denham) as well as Max Green and Rowan Green-Fergerson; as well as many beloved friends and neighbors.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Union-Udell Cemetery in Ypsilanti Township, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations in her honor to your favorite charity.
