Eric Leander Lewis, age 74, of Ypsilanti, MI, made his transition on August 22, 2026, at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. He was born December 25, 1951, in Meridian, MS, the son of Charlie and Ella (McElroy) Lewis. On June 2, 2002, Eric married Brenda (Bell) Hinton in Ypsilanti. Together, they shared many wonderful years and countless memories.

Eric dedicated 31 years of service to the State of Michigan at Maxey Training School, where he worked as a Youth Specialist Supervisor before retiring. He was a member of The River – New Wine Glory Ministries in Livonia, MI. His faith was an important part of his life, and he cherished the fellowship of his church family.

Eric was a man who believed in staying active and making the most of life. He enjoyed taking long car rides with his wife, attending summer concerts, fishing, and spending time connecting with friends and family. Most of all, he treasured making memories with his son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Papa” or “Granddad.”

Eric will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Brenda Lewis; his son, Mark (Krystal) Lewis; his grandson, Kamaree Lewis; his stepsons, Eric, Larrie, and Derik Hinton; his stepdaughters, Latoya (Zarie) Phillips and Sherri Hinton; his step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; his uncle, Samuel Edison; his aunt, Audrey Johnson; his special sister-cousin, Chandra Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ella Lewis; his brothers, Charles and Wendell Lewis; and his sister, Denise Lewis.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 3-7 pm at Stark Funeral Professionals, 101 South Washington Street, Ypsilanti. A family hour will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10 am, followed by the funeral service at 11 am at The River – New Wine Glory Ministries, 17235 Middlebelt Road, Livonia, with Bishop Marlin J. Reid officiating.

Eric leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
