Carolyn (Lucado) Griffin, 77, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Sunday, June 4, 2023. She was a lifetime resident of Ypsilanti.

She was born November 2, 1945 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of William and Hazel Lucado. Carolyn married Earnest Griffin on June 17, 1967.

Carolyn went to college at Eastern Michigan University. She graduated with a BA in 1967, followed by a MA in 1972.

She taught Honors English at Ypsilanti High School almost her entire career from 1968 until she retired in 2006. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. During her career, she organized many student trips to Stratford, Ontario for live Shakespeare performances and several student trips to England. She also was the advisor for the student publication, The Palladian Creative Arts Magazine.

Carolyn had a passion for genealogy, publishing four books on the Lucado family between 1986-2001. She was a board member and education director for the Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County. She enjoyed teaching others how to organize genealogy research, giving lectures at the local society and other groups.

Survivors include: her son, Michael Griffin of Ypsilanti; her sister, Lorraine (Lucado) Gibson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Earnest Griffin.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 12, 4-7 PM at Stark Funeral Professionals. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 13, at 11 am at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Newcomer of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow.
