Annie Mae Anderson Green

Annie Mae Anderson Green was born on December 10, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Randle Anderson and Viola Toussaint-Anderson. She was blessed with 98 years of life before peacefully transitioning from this earthly life to her heavenly home on August 18, 2026. At the time of her passing, Annie Mae was a resident of Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Early Life and Education

Annie Mae was educated in New Orleans, attending McDonogh #32 Elementary School and later graduating from L.B. Landry High School. Following high school, she began working at L.B. Landry School as a cafeteria technician.

From an early age, Annie Mae was grounded in her faith. She was baptized at Second Good Hope Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana, by the late Reverend Webster Carrell Sr. She loved God deeply and believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer. One of her favorite sayings was, “Let God have it; He knows just what to do!” Annie Mae was a true prayer warrior who prayed without ceasing for her family, friends, and this nation.

Marriage and Family

On October 14, 1948, Annie Mae married the love of her life, the late Oliver Joseph Green Sr. Oliver proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and later served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Their union was blessed with one son, the late Oliver Joseph Green Jr., affectionately known as “Punty.” Annie Mae was a devoted wife and a loving and nurturing mother. She cherished her husband and son dearly and took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.

Annie Mae was also an exceptional cook. Her gumbo, red beans and rice, stuffed peppers, and other New Orleans specialties were unforgettable. Her home in New Orleans was a favorite gathering place for Oliver and his friends. She was known for making her home a place where everyone felt welcome, loved, and well fed.

A New Chapter in Michigan

Annie Mae and Oliver Sr. later relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where they became members of Burnette Baptist Church. Together, they worked as managers of an apartment building on Grand Boulevard.

Eventually, Annie Mae and her husband moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Annie Mae continued her working career as a custodian with Willow Run Community Schools.

In Ypsilanti, Annie Mae became a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Hopkins. She faithfully served in the usher ministry and was a dedicated and dependable usher. Her commitment to the church extended beyond Sunday services, and she traveled with the usher ministry whenever Pastor Hopkins was invited to preach.

A Life of Love and Service

Annie Mae was soft-spoken, kind, compassionate, and loving. She had a gentle spirit and a heart for helping others. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer a word of encouragement, or pray for someone in need.

Her faith, love for family, generosity, and quiet strength left an enduring impression on everyone blessed to know her. She lived her life with grace and devotion, always putting her family and faith close to her heart.

Those Who Preceded Her in Death

Annie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Randle and Viola Anderson; her grandparents, Reverend Sylvester and Rosselle Toussaint; her sisters, Lula A. Anderson and Euna Mae A. Hall; her brothers, Jacob Anderson Sr., Clarence Anderson, and Morris Anderson Sr.; her beloved husband, Oliver Joseph Green Sr.; and her beloved son, Oliver Joseph Green Jr.

Her Legacy

Annie Mae leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, love, and prayer.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter-in-law and loving caregiver of the last 15 years, Kathryn A. Green; her eight grandchildren, Terrence (Keirah) Green, Tamahine (John) Walton, Tesha Peck, Kemba Curtis, Kathryn Fordyce, Quiana Carmona, Kelly (Norlena) Green, and Randle Green; her godchild, Nathalie (Phillips) Jones; 25 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.

For the last 15 years of Annie Mae’s life, Kathryn Green lovingly and devotedly cared for her, providing comfort, companionship, and unwavering support. During the final week of Annie Mae’s life, her niece, Demetria (Daryl) Moore, lovingly took the night shift so that Annie Mae would never have to be alone.

Annie Mae’s life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, love, and prayer. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave, the prayers she prayed, the meals she prepared, the lives she touched, and the wisdom she shared will continue through the generations she leaves behind.

Her earthly journey is complete, but her legacy lives on.
