Age 60, passed away unexpectedly Friday , July 11, 2014 in Casper, WY. Rod was born April 5, 1954 in Ypsilanti, the son of Carol (Batchelor) and Leonard K. Stark. He graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1972. He attended Eastern Michigan University, served his apprenticeship at Moore Funeral Home and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mortuary Science in 1978. In 1979 he became an owner of Ochalek-Stark Funeral Service in Milan and Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel in Ypsilanti in 1989. Rod loved to
vacation in the Upper Peninsula. He was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite things were camping, fly fishing, hunting and just being with family. Rod was a baptized member of the First United Methodist Church, Ypsilanti. He possesses a strong faith and love of the Lord! He is survived by his wife, Maugeen McGrath Stark; two beautiful daughters whom Rod adored, Cassandra Kay "Kassie" Stark of Northville, MI and Lindsey Ann Stark of Horton, MI; and two sons of whom he was very proud, Mark Allen Rodney Knight Stark and Flannan McGrath Stark, both of Casper, WY. Rod has one granddaughter that was most precious to his heart, Kayla Ann Stark. Also surviving are his parents, Carol Sovia of Ypsilanti and Leonard (Anna) Stark of Fairfield Glade, TN; two precious sisters, Darby Ann Stark of Ypsilanti and Sally (Gary) Penning of Marquette, MI; and the kindest brother, Bradley (Mary) Stark of Ypsilanti. Other survivors include: three nephews, Bradley (Amy) Farmer of Ypsilanti, Robert Farmer of Newberry, MI and Jonathan Stark of Ypsilanti; one niece, Julie Ann Stark of Ypsilanti; aunts and uncles, Lois (George) Wacker of Manchester, Wilma (Durwood) Beatty of Murray, KY, very special uncle, Douglas Stark of Ypsilanti, Annie Stark of Alpena, MI, Emily (Phil) Wiard of Grass Lake, MI and Russell Losey of Dearborn, MI; and many cousins, grand- nieces and nephews, mother and grandmother of his daughters, Marla Kay Penix and Ann Penix; and many dear friends. The funeral service will be 11 am Thursday July 17, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 209 Washtenaw, Ypsilanti. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Stark Funeral Service 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday and at the church from 10 am until time of service Thursday.
